CATHOLIC CENTRAL SEVERE WEATHER DELAY/CANCELLATION POLICY
Issue: Catholic Central School serves families from preschool through grade twelve from multiple school districts across our region. It is a tremendous and impossible challenge to accommodate all families while keeping safety as our first priority. With that said, having a consistent severe weather delay/cancellation policy will be helpful for families in the event a decision to delay or cancel school operations is made.
Policy: Since the elementary schools and the junior/senior high school are located within the Springfield City School District, Catholic Central will follow the delay/cancellation procedure of the Springfield City Schools. Preschool classes will be closed if the school is closed. On days that Catholic Central is delayed, morning preschool will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Challenge: Many of our school families reside in districts outside of the Springfield City Schools. A delay or cancellation from Springfield City Schools may or may not be in conformity with other districts in the outlying areas. Please remember that safety is our primary concern during times of severe weather. Families are advised to follow their own district for delays or cancellations if they are concerned about road conditions. Students from these areas will not be penalized. For example, if the Urbana School District delays due to severe weather and Springfield City School District does not, students from Urbana who come to school two hours late will not be listed as tardy. On the other hand, students who reside in the Springfield City School District will be counted as tardy if they come to school late during the same time.
Notification: To help families with the morning schedule change, Catholic Central will be listed on the television and radio stations in our region in the event that school is delayed or canceled due to inclement weather. There will also be a phone call made to every home that is listed in our Ren Web database.
